LOOKING BACK ON 2024
Strengthening The Network Of Organic Farmers
In 2024, Navdanya continued its impactful work in fostering farmer self-reliance through organic seed and farming training programs across India. These initiatives not only empowered local farmers but also strengthened Navdanya's international network committed to sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation. This year, Navdanya's annual Vasundhara festival served as a vibrant celebration of community and ecological harmony, bringing together farmers and allies to share stories, music, and practices that highlight the transformative power of living in balance with nature. Year-round, Navdanya provided critical education, resources, and support to ensure a sustainable future for farmers, communities, and the planet.
In 2024, Navdanya made significant strides in enhancing the infrastructure at its Biodiversity Farm to address the challenges posed by the climate crisis and increasing wildlife activity. Efforts included constructing a protective iron railing and brick fencing to safeguard the farm's biodiversity from encroachments and wild animals. Additionally, major soil and water conservation projects were undertaken to mitigate the impact of abnormal flooding and soil erosion caused by climate disasters. The Bija Vidyapeeth center also expanded its facilities by building a new hut for training, alongside a fully renovated kitchen to better serve the growing number of visitors and participants. Thanks to in-kind donations, these improvements ensure that Navdanya’s mission of education, seed conservation, and sustainable development continues to thrive amidst environmental challenges.
Achievements In Infrastructure On The Farm.
2024 marked the culmination of the Diverse Women for Diversity video project, bringing vibrant stories from Navdanya's network to life. Among the highlights were Voices of Resilience, where thought leaders shared insights on ecological justice, and Meet Our Seed Keeper, spotlighting a dedicated woman safeguarding traditional seeds to preserve biodiversity. In Meet the Women Farmers of Ccharba, India, we explored the collective strength of women transforming their local food systems and standing as guardians of the Earth. Thanks in part to generous donations, these stories exemplify the unwavering commitment of women farmers and activists working to create sustainable, just communities for generations to come. Celebrating Stories Of Resilience.
This year, Navdanya's Earth University offered a dynamic range of courses that emphasized sustainable living, biodiversity, and food sovereignty. A highlight of the year was the Young Ecologist Summer School, held in June. This immersive program engaged youth in hands-on learning about biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and the role of ecosystems in fostering sustainable communities. Additional courses like "Ecofeminism: The Creative Power of Nature & Women" and the annual "Return to Earth: A-Z of Biodiversity, Agroecology & Regenerative Organic Food Systems" brought together participants from around the world to explore regenerative practices and ecological justice. These courses, often featuring discussions led by Dr. Vandana Shiva, fostered a deeper connection to nature and equipped attendees with practical tools for promoting environmental harmony and resilience.
